Getting started
Open your document in Google Docs. If you’re working with a Word file, open it in Google Docs first, then choose File → Save as Google Docs and work in that version. TidyDraft can’t edit a file while it is still in Word format. Once your document is open, you can run TidyDraft directly from the Extensions menu.
Invited testers receive onboarding instructions for installing the add-on. If your Google account is managed by an organisation, your administrator may control whether you can install add-ons.
Opening TidyDraft
At the top of your document, click Extensions, find TidyDraft under your available add-ons, and select Tidy This Draft. TidyDraft will check the document’s structure and numbering and show you the results.
The first time you run it, Google asks you to authorise the permissions TidyDraft needs. These are explained in Privacy & Data.
Running Tidy This Draft
TidyDraft checks the document before making changes. You will see one of three outcomes:
- Already tidy. No changes were needed.
- Changes made. TidyDraft corrected supported structure and numbering in place. Review the document.
- Needs your help. A review sidebar opens, listing passages that need a decision or that could not be processed safely, together with a Run ID.
Reviewing corrections
- Use the sidebar to visit each concern in the document.
- Apply correction approves the specific numbering change shown.
- Done and Keep numbering record your review progress. They do not change the document, override safety checks or certify that an issue is fixed.
- Edit the document yourself where needed, then run Tidy This Draft again for a fresh check.
Always recheck cross-references and the effect of any renumbering before relying on the document. TidyDraft fixes structure, not legal substance.
If something went wrong
If a message says some changes may have been made, review the document before running TidyDraft again. TidyDraft does not restore documents automatically. Google Docs version history (File → Version history → See version history) may help you return to an earlier state.
Reporting a problem
Email help@trytidydraft.com with:
- The Run ID, if one was shown. Run IDs appear on review and failure results; a successful run doesn’t display one.
- The approximate time and your timezone. This is especially important if no Run ID appeared.
- The result you saw.
- Whether the document changed.
- The add-on version, if you know it.
Keep client text out of your first message
Please don’t send client documents, agreement text or personal details when you first report a problem. The Run ID and a description are usually enough to begin. If an investigation needs a sample, we will ask first, and only with your separate agreement, ideally using a disposable copy with sensitive content removed.
